One of San Antonio’s favorite amusement parks has a whale of a tale when it comes to saving energy.

SeaWorld of Texas participates in CPS Energy’s Demand Response program, meaning the park voluntarily cuts down on energy use when demand is highest. The energy-saving changes are unnoticeable to park visitors. The park is also switching to LED lights to save energy and money.

SeaWorld of Texas began participating in demand response in 2009. Each year, they have increased their participation — exceeding 1,100 kilowatts of savings per event last summer and looking to increase that number in 2015.

Demand response is an integral part of CPS Energy’s strategy to save 771 megawatts by 2020. Companies enrolled in the program receive incentive checks for reducing energy use when asked.
